It is possible to free yourself from what happened to you, and live with peace of mind in the present
If you have been through a traumatic experience, you may be finding it hard to move on.
When something happens to us that is more than we can handle and integrate, we can be left with overwhelming feelings that disrupt everyday life.
For some people, this means being constantly anxious, jumpy or on edge.
Other people have unexplained pain, tension or stiffness, especially in their back, neck and shoulders.
Some have sudden mood changes, finding themselves angry or emotional with seemingly trivial cause.
For others there is a sense of feeling numb, or disconnected from family and friends.
These feelings are typical after-effects of trauma, although people often don't connect them with something traumatic that happened to them. Sometimes the trauma is the result of a one-time event, such as an accident, being attacked, or suddenly losing someone close. Or it can be something that went on for some time, like for example being bullied, abused or neglected.
Certain events would be traumatising to anyone, but other experiences can be traumatising to one person and not another.
Whatever the cause, traumatic experiences are held in the nervous system, split off from our conscious thinking mind. This explains why trauma survivors can feel hijacked by feelings that are out of their control.
It also means that a healing approach that gives attention to both body and mind allows us to release the trauma and come to terms with it.
I'm a craniosacral therapist specialising in helping people after traumatic experiences. I have a body-centred approach, informed by my training in Process Work and mindfulness. I have been in practice in Cheltenham for over 30 years.
I support people to heal, move on and grow from what happened in the past, so they can reclaim their life.
I recognise that getting help for trauma is a hard step to take. I invite you to take your time, have a look around my site, read more about how I work with trauma, and if you feel ready, contact me to explore how it would be to work together.
